Right now at our shelter

There are animals waiting for you today.

They came to us injured, abandoned, and afraid. Some were found on the road. Some were left behind when their owners moved. All of them are now safe — but they need your help to stay that way.

Every meal, every vet visit, every safe night — it all comes from the generosity of people like you.

Their Stories

Every animal at Animals Alive TT has a story. These are just three of them. Your donation writes the next chapter.

Vince aka Beans — before and after rescue
Recovered & Thriving

Vince aka Beans

Gandhi Village

He was found wandering through Gandhi Village, carrying an empty cardboard food box — too starved to let it go. Hairless, skeletal, and too weak to resist when we lifted him to safety.

Today, Vince is fully recovered, gloriously fluffy, and living his best life surrounded by his many lady friends at the shelter. We named him Vince because despite everything — he truly is in-Vince-ible.

Help the Next Vince
Ralphie — before and after rescue
Looking for a Forever Home

Ralphie

Ralph Narine Trace · Rescued November 2024

Found roaming near our shelter — severely emaciated, a maggot-infested wound on his shoulder, and bruises on his head. He was less than a year old and had already been through more than any puppy should.

Once Ralphie realised he was safe, his personality exploded — goofy, high-energy, zooming around making friends with everyone. The wounds are gone. The fear is gone. Now he's just waiting for the final chapter: a forever family.

Rover aka Roberto — three-legged survivor
Three-Legged Warrior

Rover aka Roberto

Arrived December 23, 2025

Rover arrived with a severe leg infection that had reached the bone — osteomyelitis. His leg had to be amputated. During treatment, we also discovered he is deaf. When we shared his story online, donations poured in from people who had never met him but couldn't look away.

Today, Rover races around the shelter on three legs, makes friends with everyone, and somehow always ends up at the centre of the fun.

Rover doesn't know he's missing a leg. He doesn't know he's deaf. He only knows that every day is another chance to play, to love, and to be loved.

Our Work

Over the years, Animals Alive has helped hundreds of dogs and cats across Trinidad and Tobago.

Animals Alive has helped to change the lives of hundreds of dogs and cats throughout the years. We are proud to work with these local animal welfare committees:

1. No-Kill Coalition — Animals Alive / Animals 360

A joint effort to rescue and rehabilitate homeless animals and provide spay/neuter services to low-income households.

2. Animal Welfare Committee

In 2019, the Ministry of Agriculture brought together this committee to create standards of welfare for domestic and livestock animals — forming content for the revised Animal Health and Diseases Bill.

3. Nurture Nature Campaign

A coalition of 13 NPOs aimed at improving animal welfare and wildlife conservation in Trinidad and Tobago.

4. Fireworks Action Coalition of T&T

We strongly support and campaign for the responsible use of fireworks in Trinidad and Tobago.

5. Project Monitoring & Steering Committee

Established to oversee the responsible and humane implementation of a national Dog Control Act.

6. PAWSTT

Promoting Animal Welfare Standards for Trinidad and Tobago — a private sector coalition establishing guidelines on Animal Welfare in National Development.

  • Have animals recognised as sentient beings and treated appropriately
  • Include and prioritize Animal Welfare in national development

HomeAdopt › Responsible Pet Ownership

Responsible Pet Ownership

Owning a pet must always be a mutually beneficial relationship.

There are many benefits to owning a pet: joy, decreased stress, improved health, increased activity, emotional development for children, and a source of comfort. But these benefits come with a greater duty to provide compassionate and humane care.

AVMA Guidelines

  1. Care for your pet for the entirety of its life
  2. Choose a pet suited to your home and lifestyle
  3. Owning a pet is an investment of time and money
  4. Keep only the number of pets you can appropriately care for
  5. Ensure outdoor animals have sheltered areas
  6. Always provide appropriate food, water, and shelter
  7. Ensure pets are properly identified — tags, microchips, or tattoos
  8. Adhere to local laws including licensing and leash requirements
  9. Help manage overpopulation through spaying and neutering
  10. Establish and maintain a vet-client-patient relationship
  11. Provide preventive and therapeutic health care throughout your pet's life
  12. Socialise and appropriately train your pet
  13. Prevent your pet from negatively impacting people, animals, or the environment
  14. Provide appropriate exercise and mental stimulation
  15. Include pets in emergency and disaster planning
  16. Make arrangements for care if you are unable to do so
  17. Recognise declines in your pet's health and consult your vet

T&T Summary Offences Act

Any person who cruelly beats, ill-treats, starves, overdrives, overrides, overloads, abuses, tortures, or otherwise maltreats any animal is liable to a fine of four hundred dollars or imprisonment for two months.

Animal fighting or baiting is also a criminal offence. Courts may order that mistreated animals be destroyed at the offender's expense.

Foster

Fostering saves lives. Open your home and change an animal's story forever.

Why Fostering Matters

For the animal

  • A chance at life off the streets — away from disease, starvation, and cruelty
  • Experience love, affection, and security
  • Access to regular meals and veterinary care
  • Freedom from an overcrowded shelter
  • One-on-one care — especially for animals with special needs
  • Better adoption chances through trust-building and socialisation

For the shelter

Animals Alive TT is a no-kill shelter — our numbers grow continuously. A foster animal reduces pressure on our facilities and allows us to rescue more.

For you

  • A deeply rewarding and educational experience
  • The fulfillment of playing a role in an animal's rescue
  • Fostering may be temporary — or you may find your forever pet!
